Frostbuster and FrostGuard

The ultimate form of frost protection
and crop security.

Down to Frost Alarm

Frostbuster

The Frostbuster has been used for many years in fruit frost protection in Chile, USA and Europe and has won many awards.
This machine has revolutionised top & soft fruit and vine frost protection. It has been proven to increase the temperature in the orchard, tunnel or vineyard, preventing the awful effects frost can have on the fruit bud. The machine works by burning gas to provide a heated air supply, which is then blown by a fan driven by the tractor across the orchard or into the end of a tunnel. By driving around around the orchard to a pre-determined route it is possible to protect an area of up to 8 hectares.

The Frostbuster has several advantages compared to other frost protection systems:
You can protect your crops at site where no water is available,
It can be used not only during radiation frost but also during wind frost,
Used to improve fruit setting,
It can also be used for drying fruit after rain to prevent splitting

FrostGuard

The FrostGuard is a smaller version of the Frostbuster but is a stationery machine. The fan is powered by a petrol engine and the outlet of the fan turns around 360° continuously, protecting an oval or round surface. Depending on the application the protected area is between 0.5 and 1.5 hectares. The machine is available with high level or low level outlet
The FrostGuard was especially developed for fruit growers, grape growers and vegetable growers, to be used in greenhouses, plastic tunnels and small vineyards and orchards and has proven to also protec larger areas.

Model
Type GC20 (New model)
Type H
Outlet
just above the ground
above the machine
Application
most orchards, low crops in open fields
vineyards, greenhouses, high crops
Air distribustion
the machine turns around 360°constantly
the outlet turns around 360° constantly

The important advantages of the Frostbuster
and the FrostGuard:

  • Cheap: other systems will cost at least 3 times more for the same protected surface.
  • Not a fixed installation but mobile so it can be used in every plot.
  • Low consumption therefore a low price per hour - Low maintenance costs.
  • Environmentally friendly : burning of propane gas.
  • Input of energy is up to 7 times less than with other systems.
  • No risk on diseases as in case of the use of water.
  • No loss of fertilizers as in case of the use of water.
  • Easy to use.
  • No permits needed (like for construction or environment).
  • Better fruit set.
  • Can be used to warm plastic tunnels (in England frequently used for this ).
  • Works not only in case of radiation frost but also in case of wind frost.
  • Multiple uses: fruit bearing, drying fruits, etc.
  • Possibility to set up and run quickly.
  • Fast shut down for example when temperatures rises quickly.

Agrofrost was previously known as Lazo.

Frost Alarms

We are now able to supply a Frost warning and temperature logging system.

The iMetos ice is a remote instrument station for your frost vulnerable area. It reads at 5 minute intervals the temperature from a dry and a wet bulb temperature sensor and then sends this information to the Metos client database via the inbuilt cellular phone every hour. All data is retrievable via the internet and on the password protected site you can set alarms for certain temperature levels. Within minutes of the alarm value being reached the telephone numbers that you set will be automatically rung. The station is powered by rechargeable batteries and a solar panel. Additional dry sensors can be attached to monitor temperature up to 300 metres away.Soil moisture content, soil temperature and rainfall can be added to the system to make this a universal recording station. All that is required is a GPRS sim card and account.
